Cheap and expensive hookahs: what's the difference?
A hookah is a consumer product akin to clothing or electronic devices. A high price tag does not necessarily equate to superior quality, just as a lower price does not inherently imply inferiority. It is essential to examine the components that contribute to the pricing of hookahs and to identify key factors to consider when making a selection.
Distinguishing between inexpensive and premium hookahs: what are the key differences?
Factors influencing pricing
Material of the shaft
Most of good models are typically made from stainless steel, whereas lower-quality options may be constructed from inexpensive metal alloys. Such materials tend to deteriorate in appearance after only a few uses due to their inability to withstand prolonged exposure to water.
Investing a bit more in a hookah with a stainless steel shaft is advisable, as it will offer greater durability and eliminate the need for future replacements. Additionally, consider other materials such as brass or copper.
Material of the hose
A leather hose featuring an internal spring is reminiscent of designs from the early 2000s. Leather tends to absorb odors, and frequent attempts to clean it can lead to rusting of the internal spring, resulting in a diminished taste experience.
Opt for a silicone hose with a Soft Touch finish. This material is highly resistant to moisture and can be cleaned thoroughly without concern.
Height of the hookah
Inexpensive models generally measure between 25-30 cm in height. Such short designs do not allow the smoke sufficient time to cool, leading to an unpleasant experience for smokers.
An ideal height for a hookah should range from 40-60 cm. This measurement is a significant factor in determining the price, as larger models require more material.
Quality of the bowl
In the lower price range, hookah bowls tend to be very basic in terms of material. Ceramic materials are often used, which do not distribute heat effectively, which causes the tobacco to burn faster. It is advisable to choose higher quality clay bowls.
Smoking comfort
Seasoned hookah enthusiasts can easily differentiate between a low-cost and a high-quality hookah. If the hose and shaft are excessively narrow, they may require considerable effort to draw smoke. The inner diameter of the shaft should ideally be around 12-13 mm, then the smoke will pass more freely.
